Best Solo Travel Destinations in Europe
Europe is great for solo travelers. Safe, well-connected, English widely spoken. Here’s where to start.
The Easy Ones
Amsterdam: Bike-friendly, everyone speaks English, coffee shops and canals. Very social hostel scene. Hard to feel alone here.
Lisbon: Warm, affordable, walkable. Great food. Locals are friendly. Easy to meet people in the Bairro Alto at night.
Edinburgh: Compact, historic, stunning. Scots are welcoming. Festival season (August) is packed with other travelers.
The Cheap Ones
Prague: Gothic architecture, cheap beer, great nightlife. Very tourist-friendly but still has local character. Budget goes far here.
Budapest: Thermal baths are perfect for meeting people. Ruin bars are social by design. Food is cheap and good.
Krakow: Historic, walkable, incredibly affordable. Day trips to Auschwitz are sobering but important. Good base for exploring Poland.
The Adventurous Ones
Reykjavik: Gateway to Iceland’s nature. Tours are full of other solo travelers. Northern lights, hot springs, otherworldly landscapes.
Dubrovnik: Coastal beauty, history, Game of Thrones tourism. Compact old town. Easy to navigate alone.
The Classic Ones
Florence: Art, architecture, food. Italians are friendly. Small enough to walk everywhere. Renaissance overload in the best way.
Vienna: Imperial history, coffee culture, classical music. Very polished and safe. Good hostel scene for meeting people.
Tips for Solo Europe
Stay in hostels (even private rooms) if you want to meet people. Join walking tours on day one – good way to orient yourself and make connections.
Trains are easy. Flixbus is cheap. Ryanair connects everything for cheap if you pack light.
Shoulder season (April-May, September-October) is ideal. Good weather, fewer tourists, lower prices.
