Best Babymoon Destinations in the USA
Babymoon planning has gotten complicated with all the conflicting recommendations flying around. As someone who planned ours during my wife’s second trimester and spent way too long researching what actually works for pregnant travelers, I learned everything there is to know about picking the right babymoon spot. Today, I will share it all with you.
This is your last hurrah before the baby arrives. Don’t waste it on somewhere that sounds good on paper but doesn’t account for the realities of traveling while pregnant.
Maui, Hawaii
Hard to top this one, honestly. Gorgeous beaches, incredible food, and the whole island runs at a pace that says “you don’t need to do anything today.” Nobody expects you to hike a volcano or snorkel for hours. You can just exist on a beautiful beach and that’s enough.
The Wailea resorts are perfect for this kind of trip. Prenatal spa treatments, calm water you can wade into without getting pummeled by waves, and the kind of service where people bring you things before you realize you want them. Book the nicer hotel. You deserve it. In a few months, sleeping through the night becomes a distant memory.
Scottsdale, Arizona
Desert warmth without the swampy humidity, which matters a lot when you’re pregnant and already running hot. World-class spas everywhere you look. Sanctuary Camelback Mountain is the spot I’d pick. Mountain-view casitas, prenatal massages from people who actually know what they’re doing, and the kind of property where leaving feels like a waste.
Charleston, South Carolina
Probably should have led with this section, honestly. Charleston has this Southern charm thing dialed in perfectly for a babymoon. Historic streets that are beautiful to wander, incredible food around every corner, and a pace of life that doesn’t ask much of you physically. Downtown is walkable without being exhausting. When feet get tired, hop on a carriage tour. And the shrimp and grits at basically any local spot will be some of the best food you’ve had.
Napa Valley, California
I know what you’re thinking: wine country when you can’t drink? But hear me out. Napa is gorgeous regardless of whether you’re sipping anything. The restaurants are world-class, hot air balloon rides over vineyards are magical, and most wineries now offer mocktail menus that are actually good. Your partner can do the tasting while you soak in the scenery and eat your weight in farm-to-table everything.
Key West, Florida
That’s what makes Key West endearing to us babymoon planners. It’s laid back to its core. Warm, easy, no agenda required. Watch the sunset at Mallory Square, spend half a day by the pool doing absolutely nothing, and stroll the streets at whatever pace feels right. The island is small enough to walk everywhere when you feel like it, and the seafood is fresh and fantastic.
What to Actually Look For in a Babymoon
Keep the travel time short. Long flights with a pregnancy belly are genuinely miserable, and you want to spend your energy enjoying the destination, not recovering from getting there. Make sure there are good medical facilities nearby, not because you’ll likely need them, but because peace of mind matters when you’re growing a human.
Focus on relaxation over adventure. This isn’t the trip for zip-lining or all-day hikes. One more thing: check resort spa policies before booking, because some places restrict certain treatments for pregnant guests, and you don’t want that surprise on arrival.
The second trimester is the sweet spot for timing. First trimester, most people feel terrible. Third trimester, moving around becomes a production. That middle window is where the magic is. Plan your trip for then and you’ll actually enjoy it.
