My Travel Packing List

I’ve packed for maybe 200 trips at this point. Here’s what actually matters.

Clothes

Pack less than you think you need. Seriously. I used to overpack every trip and never wore half of it.

Underwear and socks for each day plus two extra pairs. That’s it. You can rewear jeans. You can rewear that sweater. Underwear? No.

Three or four shirts. Mix of short and long sleeve depending on weather. Pick neutral colors that go with everything so you’re not playing fashion matchmaker in your hotel room.

One pair of pants, one pair of shorts if it’s warm. Maybe dress pants if you’ve got something fancy going on.

A jacket. Always. Even if it’s summer. Planes are freezing. Restaurants blast AC. You’ll want it.

Shoes

Two pairs max. Comfortable walking shoes you’d actually wear for a full day. And flip flops or sandals for the hotel and beach if relevant.

I’ve watched people bring four pairs of shoes on a week trip. Insane. You won’t wear them all.

Toiletries

Travel sizes of everything. Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, whatever face stuff you use. Put it all in a clear bag so security doesn’t hassle you.

Hotels have shampoo. Unless you’re picky about your products, don’t bother packing it.

The Stuff You’ll Actually Use

Phone charger. Don’t forget this one – I’ve done it twice and it ruins your day.

Passport and ID. Check three times before you leave.

Headphones for the flight.

A portable battery. Lifesaver when you’re navigating all day and your phone is dying.

One book or your kindle. You won’t read three books on a week trip.

Pro Tips From Getting It Wrong

Roll your clothes instead of folding. Fits more, fewer wrinkles.

Leave room for souvenirs. I used to pack my bag full and then struggle to fit anything I bought.

Wear your bulkiest shoes on the plane. Saves space in the bag.

That’s the whole list. You don’t need more than this.
